Put religion aside. Heck, put love aside. Marriage is a business. Two people get married for whatever reason, share a home, other assets, maybe kids. They share expenses and income, and get tax and estate benefits from the arrangement. Straight people have that right. Gay people don't. It is discrimination just like segregation . . . just like not allowing women and people of color to vote. People are all human beings . . . let them all share the same rights or take those rights away from everyone.

Woody,

I think you make a very good point about the constituion saying "Government cannot recognize any law respecting the establishment of religion."

Fighting against "gay marriage" is like fighting the tide coming in. Over time, personal rights only expand, not recede. It WILL happen.

Besides how does anyone else's definition of marriage affect my marriage? Or yours?

If we were talking about certain historic marriages I would certainly agree with you especially where royalty is concerned.

However, even taking this concept of marriage that you propose certainly shouldn't be a right exclusive to one and denied to another.

I don't get where this idea marriage was something you do because you love someone comes from.
Read your history. The concept of a love marriage is very new, only a couple of hundred years old, before that there were occasional romantic stories, but the vast majority of marriage was about cementing family ties, economics etc.

Marriage and love are connected, but the love is something that comes after the marriage. Almost a sort of duty.
