Study: Atlanta has worst traffic in the South
Atlanta Business Chronicle by Jacques Couret, Senior Online Editor Tuesday, January 8, 2013
Nearly half of Atlanta’s commuters (48.5 percent) are on the road for more than half an hour each way.
This won’t be a shock to Atlanta residents, but the Big Peach is saddled with the worst score for traffic congestion in the South.
Nearly half of Atlanta’s commuters (48.5 percent) are on the road for more than half an hour each way, compared to the national average of 35.4 percent, according to a new On Numbers analysis.
On Numbers generated a “commuting index” for each metropolitan and micropolitan area in the region, using newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2011 American Community Survey.
A market received a positive score for each commuter who travels less than 30 minutes each way, offset by a negative score for each worker who is on the road for more than half an hour. The largest scores (either positive or negative) were awarded for commutes within the very shortest or very longest statistical range.
