We were all duped. We were all lied to. Notre Dame. College football fans. The Media.
I fell for it. You fell for it. We all fell for it.
Manti Te’o and his band of merry liars fed the entire country a load of crap. Thanks to Deadspin… the truth has come out.
Heres a little timeline of events.
November 28, 2009 – Teo and Lennay reportedly meet following the Notre Dame/Stanford game and have been friends since.
Sometime early 2012 – they are happily in love and officially an item.
Later 2012 – Lennay reportedly is in a serious car accident and was critically injured. Unfortunatel, as she recovered from the accident… doctors discovered she has leukemia.
September 1, 2012 – The 2012 college football season officially kicked off and I couldnt be happier and Manti Te’o is the starting linebacker for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
September 10, 2012 – Lennay is released from the hospital.
September 12, 2012 – Several media outlets, including ESPNs College Gameday, began documenting the death of his grandmother… and reportedly within hours Lennay also died from leukemia.
Pay attention! Its about to get good now.
September 15, 2012 – Manti decides to play in the game vs Michigan State recording 15 tackles.
September 22, 2012 – Lennay is laid to rest.
October 1, 2012 – Manti Te’o appears on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
November 24, 2012 – Notre Dame completes a perfect regular season with a win over USC and earning their way into the BCS National
Championship game.
Heres where it gets good.
December 6, 2012 – Remember this date for further down the timeline. I dont wanna ruin it.
December 8, 2012 – Manti Te’o is a Heisman candidate and is present and accounted for during the Heisman Tropy Ceremony which was eventually awarded to Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. (Who i affectionately refer to as Johnny Football HeisManFelon.)
January 7, 2012 – Notre Dame gets their asses handed to them by the Alabama Crimson Tide (and it wasnt even close to being a competition). But dont you know.. leading up to this game, the Monti Te’o story played prominently in this supposedly clash of titan college power houses.
January 16, 2012 – Deadspin released details that their research indicates that Lennay Kekua never existed. No record of her existence anywhere.
Manti Te’o releases this statement on the matter:
January 18, 2012 –
ESPN reports surface that Manti Te’o and Notre Dame knew this was a hoax since … remember that date? December 6, 2012. So.. over a month passes..including a Heisman ceremony and a National Championship game since they knew about this debacle. So Manti Te’o and Notre Dame continued to perpetuate a story that was a complete hoax.
You have to ask.. why would he do this? Its obvious he KNEW this was complete bullshit from the beginning.
Why would a college football player, who is basically worshipped on campus, need to perpetuate a lie about having a girlfriend? We know there had to have been women throwing themselves at him just because he was a football player at Notre Dame.
You know.. when guys have done this in the past.. it is usually to cover up for something else. Like being gay. “Straight” men do it all the time so that the public wont know that they truly desire the touch of a man instead of a woman. Is Manti using this to cover up for being a closet case? I am not trying to be sensantionalistic here… think about it… thats an awfully big lie to perpetuate when you can have all the women you want at your beck and call.
Can you imagine the signs at a Notre Dame game when ESPN’s College GameDay is broadcasting?
You have to know that Teo, Notre Dame and several media outlets lawyers are already reviewing this case and probably working up a settlement for the poor girl whose picture was used as part of this lie. Oh yes.. they FOUND her. And I hope she bleeds Notre Dame and Monti Te’o dry. She deserves everything she gets.
And that sound you hear? Thats Te’o’s NFL draft stock dropping from a high first round pick.. to possibly undrafted. What NFL team is going to want to deal with this public relations nightmare?
