Florida Gator Hockey Update

2/1/13

Gators 3
Owls 2

2/2/13

Gators 7
Owls 3

The Gator hockey team is now 16-5-1 for the regular season, and was ranked tied for 12th place in the ACHA South division tied with Liberty University. This was the last ACHA South rankings as of 1/20/13:

1 Central Florida
2 Kennesaw State
3 Florida Gulf Coast
4 Loyola University
5 Arkansas
6 Alabama
7 Mississippi
8 Christopher Newport
9 Miami
10 South Carolina

11 NC – Wilmington
12 Liberty
12 Florida
14 Charlotte
15 Georgia Tech

The ACHA South Regional is in Atlanta on February 15 – 17. In order for the Gators to make the regional, they must place in the Top 10 in the ACHA South. With the two wins over the FAU Owls, the Gators are hoping to make a big move up the rankings. In my eye, there are four teams currently keeping the Gators hopes in Jeopardy – Miami, South Carolina, NC Wilmington, and Liberty . With that said, Florida just may have gotten the help they needed to make the top 10 as South Carolina took down NC Wilmington 2-1 and Liberty got pummelled by Kennesaw State 5-1 on 2/2/13. Miami beat the hell out of Life University 11-1 on 2/1/13 and again 9-0 on 2/2/13. I think its safe to say Miami has solidified its position in the Top 10. Christopher Newport got some good wins over Richmond and Old Dominion this past weekend.

How the rankings all shake out is going to be interesting.

The only games remaining on Florida’s schedule are the ACHA regionals and the SEC Tournament on 2/22-24/13 in Huntsville, Al. Here are the SEC HC rankings:

East
South Carolina
Florida
Georgia
Vanderbilt
Tennessee – Eliminated from SEC Tournament

West
Arkansas
Alabama
Ole Miss
Auburn
Miss State – Eliminated from SEC Tournament
