Again…Georgia is in the news for idiotic political behavior. This time the Atlanta Business Chronicle and WXIA-TV are reporting that Nelson, Ga, which is located north of Metro Atlanta in North Cherokee and Pickens Counties, are considering passing a law requiring the head of every household to own a gun. They are fashioning their law after a similar passed in Kennesaw, Ga back in the 80’s.
Adding to the problem doesn’t solve the problem.
Exemptions to the law would include “felons, paupers, and anyone with a mental or physical disability.”
Ummmm. Really interested to know how they are going to screen an individual who wasn’t previously a felon or listed as having a mental disability?
This doesn’t stop people from BECOMING a criminal.
And we are all equally capable of going crazy.
The law would also exempt “anyone opposed to maintaining firearms,” WXIA reported.
So let me get this straight… the law requires every head of household to own a gun… unless you don’t want to. So.. why even bother passing this law to begin with?
Nelson council member Edith Portillo told WXIA the law would not be enforced, but is intended to send a message to Washington lawmakers who want to restrict gun ownership.
So this isn’t about protecting your constituents… this is about politics. So you would rather endanger your constituents and waste tax payer time and dollars… to wage political war with Washington?
Excuse me while I roll my eyes. Can just one Politician in this State go to college and take Logical and Critical Thinking please?

Georgia city may require every home to have gun
Carla Caldwell, Morning Call Editor
Leaders in Nelson, Ga., have given preliminary approval to an ordinance that would require the head of every household in the city of 1,300 people to maintain a firearm and ammunition.
The proposal is patterned after a law passed in the 1980s in Kennesaw, Ga., where supporters say the requirement has helped keep crime down, reports Atlanta Business Chronicle broadcast partner WXIA-TV.
Nelson is north of Atlanta, located partly in Pickens County and mostly in Cherokee County.
Exemptions to the law would include “felons, paupers, and anyone with a mental or physical disability.”
The law would also exempt “anyone opposed to maintaining firearms,” WXIA reported.
Nelson council member Edith Portillo told WXIA the law would not be enforced, but is intended to send a message to Washington lawmakers who want to restrict gun ownership.
“Our government at the moment, they want to take as much away from us as they can,” said Portillo.
The measure is being promoted by the chairman of the local Tea Party, who says the organization wants to take the issue countywide and then statewide.
The Nelson City Council is scheduled to vote on the issue in April.
